Eastern Silvery Aster-first time seeing this ever
What I learned:
It grows in pine lands, savannas or openings in pine-oak woods with dry, sandy soils.
Which are the conditions at Tallassee where I found it.
"Other Information: North American Atlantic coastal plain composite, appears to be in decline throughout its range, where habitat loss due to fire suppression, plant community succession, and development are major threats. Although this plant occurs in fourteen states and is considered widespread but uncommon in the southeast, it is either historic or vulnerable to extirpation at its northern limit in southern New England."--Mississippi Dept. of Marine Resources
Tallassee has had some fires in the vicinity where this specimen was found.
It is likely the reason it is doing well here.
